Reputation System
Your reputation tracks your behavior in ASTRA. Kill innocent players and you'll become a wanted criminal. Hunt down outlaws and you'll become a hero.
Reputation Range
Reputation ranges from -1,000 to +1,000, starting at 0 (Neutral).
Status Levels
| Status | Reputation | Effects |
|---|---|---|
| Outlaw | ≤ -750 | Police call backup, maximum hostility |
| Wanted | -500 to -750 | Police start attacking you |
| Neutral | -500 to +500 | Normal standing |
| Hero | ≥ +500 | 10% repair discount at stations |
Gaining Negative Reputation
Killing other players costs reputation. The penalty depends on where you do it:
| Constellation Tier | Kill Penalty |
|---|---|
| T1-T2 (newbie space) | -500 reputation |
| T3-T4 (lawless space) | -100 reputation |
Weak Target Penalty
Killing a much weaker player (power difference > 100) adds an extra -100 to -200 reputation penalty. The bigger the power gap, the harsher the penalty.
Killing players in T1-T2 constellations carries a massive -500 reputation hit — one kill and you're nearly Wanted. The game heavily discourages griefing new players.
Gaining Positive Reputation
Kill Wanted or Outlaw players to gain reputation:
| Target Status | Reputation Reward |
|---|---|
| Wanted (≤ -500) | 10% of victim's |
| Outlaw (≤ -750) | 20% of victim's |
Example: Killing an Outlaw at -900 reputation gives you +180 reputation (20% × 900).
Bounty System
Criminal players accumulate bounties:
- 80% of credits dropped on death become bounty
- System tops up small bounties (max 500 credits)
- Bounties of 100+ credits are broadcast every 5 minutes with the player's last known location, ship class, and constellation
- Collecting a bounty also grants 10% of the bounty value as reputation
Reputation Decay
Negative reputation slowly decays toward 0:
- Rate: 10 points per hour (only while online)
- Only negative reputation decays — positive reputation is permanent
At -750 (Outlaw), it would take 75 hours of online time to naturally decay back to Neutral.
Status Effects
Outlaw (≤ -750)
- Station police drones call reinforcements when you're nearby
- You're a high-value bounty target
- Other players are rewarded for killing you
Wanted (-500 to -750)
- Station police drones will attack you on sight
- You appear on bounty broadcasts
- Other players are rewarded for killing you
Neutral (-500 to +500)
- Normal gameplay
- No special effects
Hero (≥ +500)
- 10% discount on hull repairs at stations
- Recognized as a protector of the constellation
Even Outlaws can dock at stations and use all services. Reputation affects NPC behavior and bounties, but never locks you out of game features.
Tips
- Reputation is hard to rebuild — Think before you shoot. One kill in newbie space (-500) takes 50 hours to decay.
- Bounty hunting pays — Hunting Outlaws is lucrative and builds positive reputation.
- Check constellation tier — Killing in T3-T4 costs much less reputation (-100) than T1-T2 (-500). If you must PvP, do it in lawless space.
- Power matters — Don't punch down. Killing weak players carries extra penalties.
